Meet your host, Julia A
Hi! My name is Julia. Born in Russia, I've become a passionate lover of Sweden and everything about and around it. That's why I've spent half of my life studying the Swedish mentality, traditions and history... At the moment I work with various projects, some of which involve teaching Swedish, guiding in Sweden, writing books about Sweden - and that's what I'd like to share with you: my knowledge of all the secrets I've discovered so far. What makes me so different from other guides? Well, here are some examples: - I've written 3 thick travel guides over Sweden, Stockholm and Scandinavia, all of them with tons of fascinating facts - I've been guiding in Sweden since 2000 - I create excursions for travelers from all around the world. - I give lectures about Swedish mentality and customs
What you will see and do
Let's pick out the most fabulous, romantic and picturesque castles and palaces in Sweden and visit them virtually.
In Sweden, you probably won't find all those fairy-tale castles that are so typical for Disney-films. But here, you'll find places filled with history, ghosts and pastry instead. Let's talk about the legends, compare different architectural styles and fashion of various epochs. Let's travel around the whole Sweden to understand how the medieval castles turned into modern palaces. We'll see where the first Swedish tennis court appeared, where the fork was introduced to Sweden and where the best known Swedish lion, owning his own Facebook page, can be found. Also, you'll hear why one of the Swedish noble families has a beheaded troll as its symbol, and what appeared to be one of the greatest Swedish royal scandals back in the 16th century.
We'll make a list over the palaces with the most stunning interiors, and you'll find your way to the cake palace and a place for spending a night at - the same place where Elizabeth Taylor and Greta Garbo used to be frequent guests.
Prepare a pen and paper in case you'll need to write down the names of the places for your next trip to Sweden!Cancellation policy
