Hi! My name is Julia. Born in Russia, I've become a passionate lover of Sweden and everything about and around it. That's why I've spent half of my life studying the Swedish mentality, traditions and history... At the moment I work with various projects, some of which involve teaching Swedish, guiding in Sweden, writing books about Sweden - and that's what I'd like to share with you: my knowledge of all the secrets I've discovered so far. What makes me so different from other guides? Well, here are some examples: - I've written 3 thick travel guides over Sweden, Stockholm and Scandinavia, all of them with tons of fascinating facts - I've been guiding in Sweden since 2000 - I create excursions for travelers from all around the world. - I give lectures about Swedish mentality and customs

  • What you will see and do

In Sweden, we used to say that the real highlights of the year are Christmas Eve and Midsummer. If Christmas is an authentic family tradition and it's often next to impossible to celebrate Christmas in "a typical Swedish way" if you aren't a close relative to a Swede, it's just the other way round with Midsummer. Everybody can become part of it! And now thanks to this online experience, you can even become a part of it from your home.

Midsummer Eve is celebrated on a Friday between June 20 and June 26, but what can stop us from celebrating it the whole summer - or at least get prepared for the next one?

So, what do you need for a real Midsummer? A long pole, a wreath, a countryside house, a good company, good food and dances! Well, what do you need for a Midsummer online experience? Good mood, some space and neighbors who won't complain about you being not so graceful and not thinking you're crazy-making some really childish and foolish movements. I promise, the Frog dance will make you laugh and will stay in your heart forever! The genuine (Mid)summer atmosphere is guaranteed.

But we won't learn just the famous Frog Dance. We'll learn some other dances and songs, as well - at least the movements that are associated with them. Get ready for celebrating next Midsummer as a real Swede!

Summer is not only about Midsummer. We also eat that "fantastic" surströmming and have a crayfish party. I'll tell you about these traditions, too, and we'll learn a traditional Swedish song that just "has to be sung" before drinking some alcohol.

Please note, that for this activity you'll need free space to move around, so arrange your room so that you don't have any furniture just behind you. Midsummer dances are round dances, but if you're alone, it's OK, it'll be enough with a couple of square meters.
Also, you'll probably need paper and a pen in case you wish to write down the movements, the texts or the names of the songs.
