Hi, I was born in Cascais, by the sea, where I started to sail when I was 8 years old. Wooden sail boats are my passion. Recovered a barge and started taking part in the Tagus river events, before I wrote a book on the subject, in 2009. One year after, I bought Halcyon I, a 55'' wooden sailing boat, from 1970, in the Algarve, the south of Portugal, started a two years recovery, on the anchor, in Cascais and started doing boat tours. On the second year, decided to turn to Lisbon, as I find it much more interesting. I love History and, explaining the monuments, we learn a lot about Portugal, a small country with nice people, who went out into the Ocean to discover the World, in the XV century. Our main program is a two hours historical boat tour but we have three hours, full day and charter.

  • What you will see and do

If you love wooden sailboats and would like to have a perspective of Lisbon, seen from the river, to learn about Portuguese History, for 2 hours, appreciating a bottle of good sparkling wine and nibbles, this is the right experience for you.

We leave from Alcantara harbor and sail down to Belem Tower. Depending on wind and tides, we hoist sails on the way out or in Belem. If you help us hoist the mainsail, we'll appreciate. On the way, we'll give explanations on the monuments, as we pass by. 25 April's bridge, Ajuda Palace, National Rope Factory, Maat, Coaches Museum, Jeronimos Monastery, Monument of Discoveries, Modern Art Museum, Popular Art Museum and Belem Tower. In the neighborhood where most of Lisbon's museums are located, you'll learn a lot about Portuguese History and how we discovered the World, in the XV th century. On the way up to Alfama, you'll have time to relax and enjoy the quietness of sailing, before we get to Commerce Square and start the explanations again.

Halcyon I is a 35 tons wooden yacht, built in Lisbon between 1968 and 1970, under a Scottish design (G.L.Watson & Co). The wood came from India and there where only three boats built under the same design (Worldwide). It is powered by two 6 cylinder Leyland engines, from 1966.
I bought the boat in 2010 and it has been my home ever since.
