Meet your host, Rui M
OIá from Rui and Rute! My name is Rui and I am a tour guide, surfer and musician. I fell in love with Sintra when I was studying professional tour guiding in the ’90s. I was enchanted by its history, legends and myths, spending there many years of my life. The idea of this experience came up when I decided to show Sintra to my best friend. So I’ve created this route in 2017. Recently I invited the energetic and vibrant Rute to be my co-host. We share the same passion and we want to share Sintra with you, in a relaxed and funny way.
What you will see and do
Prepare your intellectual spirit and adventurous soul. On this day trip from Lisbon, you will discover the magical and the mystical Sintra. I will guide you through a carefully chosen selection of monuments and sites. The goal is to experience why Sintra has proved to be so captivating for lovers, royals and storytellers on the past centuries.
Upon arrival, we'll start with a soft hike through the magical Pena Park, where you'll discover exuberant vegetation and hidden temples. We'll then explore the terraces of Pena Palace and talk about its references to the most important periods of Portuguese History. We'll visit the interior of its XVI Century Chapel, and do the wall walk all around the Palace.
After lunch (free time at the historical centre), I'll invite you to taste the famous local pastry (Travesseiro). You can't skip it!
We'll then head into Quinta da Regaleira, a place full of symbols which refers to Hermeticism, Alchemy, Greek Mythology and more. We'll explore fountains, grottos, an initiation well, the palace and a network of secret tunnels. The "cherry on top" of this day trip, is the visit to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe.
Important Notes: There is a lot of walking included. Bring comfortable walking shoes! We will walk 8/9 km up and down hill, including stair climbing. Lunch is not included. You'll find options for a light meal starting at 5€.What's included
Travesseiro (local pastry) . Bottled water. Fully licensed and comfortable 9 seats van, with Air Conditioned. What's not included
